Why Are the Ten Commandments Important?

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Deuteronomy 6:6-9

God's Ten Commandments Will Strengthen Your Family

While the Ten Commandments have been removed from the walls of public institutions, God’s laws still apply. His laws are especially important for families. In fact, Pastor Adrian Rogers reminds us that the Ten Commandments were originally given to the home.

Only Jesus kept those commandments perfectly. If we could keep them perfectly, we wouldn’t need saving. But if Christian families would teach the Ten Commandments to their children and, with the help of the Holy Spirit, do their best to abide by them in their homes, those families would be strengthened immeasurably. Rather than blending in with the rest of society, they would shine an irresistible light in our culture.

Love Worth Finding is exploring the Ten Commandments, one by one, concentrating on how each may be applied, specifically in the home. We’ll examine each commandment with Pastor Adrian Rogers, using his original message series titled, “A Perfect Ten for Homes that Win.”

ARE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS TAUGHT IN YOUR HOME?

While Christians are right to desire a society that abides by the Ten Commandments, we must also remember that these commandments were given first for the home. When we teach these commandments, we bring life into our homes. This study walks us through each commandment and how to teach it to our children so we can have godly homes.

“Nobody is saved by keeping the Ten Commandments. If he could be, Jesus Christ need never have died.”
