Why should I trust God?

What character traits exist in someone you trust? Some might include: Truthful, Right, Good, Willing to Claim You, Willing to Fight for You, Willing to Mediate for You, Won’t Forsake You, Shows Mercy, Loves You.

These character traits in a person are great! However, because that person is a human being, those traits are imperfect because of sin. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.”

Those same character traits in God are perfect because He is holy. Consider:

  • “For the word of the LORD is right, and all His work is done in truth” (Psalm 33:4).
  • “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (John 14:6).
  • “For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations” (Psalm 100:5).
  • “The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:25).
  • “But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are mine.’” (Isaiah 43:1).
  • “One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the LORD your God is He who fights for you, as He promised you” (Joshua 23:10).
  • “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).
  • “For the LORD will not forsake His people, for His great name’s sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you His people” (1 Samuel 12:22).
  • “Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is merciful” (Psalm 116:5).
  • “So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy” (Romans 9:16).
  • “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:8).
  • “But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

These and so many more traits found in God’s Word tell us, clearly, that we can trust our great God.
