What is the blessed hope of the believer?

Jesus is our blessed hope. This is not hope as in wishful thinking; it is divine certainty or blessed assurance. One of the best things about Jesus being our blessed hope is that we get to experience that hope now through salvation. Jesus is our present hope. (See Colossians 1:27.)

When we get saved, Jesus is our assurance that we now belong to the family of God. The saved in Scripture are called God’s children, joint heirs with Christ, and His own special people. So, Jesus is our present hope.

Jesus is also our future hope. (See 1 Thessalonians 2:19 and Titus 2:13.) One day, we will see our Savior face to face! He is coming back for those who are His! We have this as a blessed assurance, a divine certainty: that He will call us home and we will forever be with our Lord and Savior.

If Jesus wasn’t who He said He was, and if Jesus did not rise from the dead, then we, as Paul wrote, are a people most miserable. (See 1 Corinthians 15:12-19.) However, we know that Jesus is God, Jesus rose from the dead, and Jesus is coming back for us. (See John 14:3.)

“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13).
