What does “Jesus conquered death” mean?

That Jesus conquered death means that we no longer have to fear death. Jesus said of Himself in John 11:25, “...I am the resurrection and the life...” The true life and power of Christ Jesus abolished the rule and power of death. “... our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Timothy 1:10). Before Jesus died and was raised to life, thus defeating death, we were chained to and slaves to death and its sting. But because of Christ’s resurrection we can be made free. Paul explains this in Romans 8:2, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” The fact that Jesus conquered death is what makes salvation possible and complete. Romans 10:9 says, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” And His resurrection is a fact! There are 21 different passages of Scripture that together attest to more than 500 eyewitness accounts of people seeing Jesus after His resurrection. What do these passages give us? Hope! Not the wishful thinking kind of hope, but divine certainty. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). Have there been others in times past who were raised from the dead? Yes, but none of them predicted their death and resurrection and all of them died again. Jesus alone conquered death, and only Jesus can offer eternal life to those who put their faith in Him!
