What do you think about cloning?

Let me say on the outset that a secular organization, CNN surveyed a group of people in 1997 and discovered that 89 percent of those who responded believed that cloning humans was morally wrong, and 74 percent said that human cloning is against God’s will.

When man begins to tamper with life itself, I believe he is on dangerous ground. Only God creates life. Genesis 1:26a says, “Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.” And Genesis 2:7 says, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Man would like to think he is creating, but he is only shuffling and stirring together that which God has already created. Man can only make creatures out of God’s created life form. Only God can inhale life into man. Man can only exhale.

Because family is at the core of this futuristic endeavor, let me pose to you a scenario which Francis J. Beckwith, Ph.D. painted in an article I read in Focus On The Family’s Citizen Magazine: “Imagine if an infertile couple were to produce a clone of the male partner in order to have a child...the child/clone would technically be the father’s twin — and therefore a brother — and not the father’s son, because sons are the product of the union of a man’s genetic code with a woman’s...The distinctions between parent, child, sister, and brother — which ground our notion of family life — are at risk of becoming unraveled if cloning is treated as just another exercise in reproductive rights.”

In 2 Timothy 3, we read about the last days and one verse stands out among the rest as particularly pertinent to this subject, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” Scientists who are researching human cloning appear to be pursuing this altruistically wanting to achieve a higher good for mankind...but the Word of God tells us to turn away from such as these. I ask you to pray for the men and women involved in this endeavor that God will open their eyes to truth and turn their hearts to Him.
