Did the Virgin Birth actually happen?

How has sin been passed down through the ages? Sin has come through the blood of man during procreation. “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all have sinned” (Romans 5:12). The first man, Adam, sinned (Genesis 3:6), and since then all his offspring are tainted by sin because all came through him.

How could Jesus have been born of a woman and still be sinless? Was she not born into sin as well? Yes, she was born into sin as all others were, but she does not pass her sin trait in childbearing. Science has proven that there is no blood transfer from mother to child in childbearing. The blood of the child is determined by the father. This is why Mary conceived through the Holy Spirit instead of through a man. A man would have passed on sin, but God the Holy Spirit only passed along the traits of God. This miraculous conception made Jesus completely unique! He was fully God and, at the same time, fully man; the God-man.

This virgin-born God-man, Jesus, was prophesied about in Isaiah 7:14: “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” This prophecy was fulfilled in Matthew 1:23: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, God with us.” Then why did He have to be born through a virgin human and not just come to earth as a baby-God? Consider these equations:

God + God = God—There would be no way for Jesus to relate to our struggle with sin if He were not man.

Man + woman = sinner—There would be no way for Jesus save us and connect us to God if He were not God.

God + woman = God-man—Jesus is able to relate to our struggle with sin without committing sin (Hebrews 4:15) and able to save us from our sin and connect us to God (Romans 5:1).

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
