Can Christians lose their salvation?

Can Christians lose their salvation? Absolutely not! There are two things Christians can know for sure about salvation. We can know that we are His, and we can know that we cannot lose our salvation. These assurances are found directly in Scripture.

We are His

The first “know” is found in 1 John 5:11-13, which says, “And this is the testimony, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things have I written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.”

This passage tells us that we have a “know so” salvation. Not a hope so, wish so, or think so, but a know so salvation.

Salvation is Forever

The second “know” is vividly described for us by Jesus in John 10:28-30, “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.”

This passage tells us that once we are His, no one is able to take us from Him. No other person or spiritual foe can take us away from the Lord God. Furthermore, we cannot take ourselves away from God. Our salvation is not based on what we do or don’t do. It’s solely based on God Himself. Therefore, we can do nothing to receive it, nor can we do anything to lose it.

Romans 6:10 says, “For the death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.”
