Of all the churches that Adrian Rogers led prior to Bellevue, the most noteworthy was certainly the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, Florida (1964-1972). Located on Florida’s Atlantic coast in Brevard County—known in the 1960s as “Moon Port USA”—Merritt Island took center stage in the nation’s historic race to the moon in the 1960s. Situated only a few miles west of Cape Canaveral, Merritt Island experienced an enormous population explosion as thousands of contractors, scientists, construction workers, engineers, and their families flooded the area. 

Adrian Rogers, with a priority upon the inerrant Word of God, preached in a dynamic and endearing way along with an emphasis upon personal evangelism, the fullness of the Holy Spirit, and an innovative vision for comprehensively ministering to “the whole man...physical, mental, and spiritual."
