We Have to Truly Know God’s Word

“Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settled in Heaven.”

Psalm 119:89

Ponder This

There was a sign in a business that said, “We are not what we think we are; what we think, we are.” Does that make sense? We’re not what we think we are, but rather, what we think, we are. That is, you are what you think. Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.”

Now, if that is true, we need the knowledge of the Word of God to have spiritual power. We need to be molded, motivated, and managed by the Word of God. And yet for many in the Church, the Bible remains a closed book and a mysterious book. We may give lip service to the Bible but we really do not understand it. There’s no cheap way, there’s no lazy way, there’s no magical way to understand the Bible. Understanding the Bible takes time and work, but it is completely worth it.

  • How much evidence does your life give that you desire to really know the Bible?
  • What practices can help you grow in this area?

Practice This

Set aside time each day this week to study the Bible, both directly and through resources such as commentaries.
