Unity in Our Differences

“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Galatians 3:27-28

Ponder This

I want to ask you a question: who is better, the man or the woman? The answer to that question is: “Yes.” A man is infinitely superior to a woman at being a man, and a woman is infinitely superior to a man at being a woman. God made us different so that He might make us one. Never forget it. Neither is superior to the other, but we are different.

You know Joyce and I are a lot alike, but Joyce and I are also very different. We have this idea that the differences we see divide us, but it is actually the opposite—it’s these differences that unite us. God made us different so that He might make us one. When we look, there are definitely some differences between men and women, and these are more than mere psychological proclivities. These are there by divine design.

  • What does it look like to value unity the way God does?
  • Do you look at differences as a good or bad thing? Why?

Practice This

Pray and ask God to help you see differences the way He does, as part of His design for the purpose of unity in Him.
