Satan's Four Spiritual Flaws

Genesis 3:1-5

Sermon Overview

Scripture Passage: Genesis 3:1-5

Satan wants to bring death to our happiness, joy, and purity, and he accomplishes this through deceit, depravity, and destruction.

Satan cleverly crafts subtle lies about the biggest truths. He knows that if he can get us to believe the wrong things, it is easier for us to do the wrong things.

Genesis 3 reveals Satan’s four spiritual flaws, as he confronted Eve in the Garden of Eden.

First, Satan wants us to despise God’s goodness and think negatively about God.

As he convinced Eve in Genesis 3, Satan wants us to think God is straight-laced and cruel, and that our relationship with Him would be filled with “don’t!” But God does not take away joy; He gives it.

Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

Adrian Rogers says, “When I invite you to Jesus Christ, I’m not inviting you to a funeral; I’m inviting you to a feast.”

Second, Satan wants us to deny God’s truthfulness and think skeptically about God.

After Satan removes the truth of God’s Word from our minds, he slips in other ideas to replace them. Many other religions, spiritual practices, and New Age thoughts are simply substitutes from the enemy to divert us from the truth.

Third, Satan wants us to defy God’s righteousness and think carelessly about God.

In Genesis 3:4, Satan convinced Eve to think lightly of God and His Word. We must never forget that God is holy, and He will punish sin.

Finally, Satan wants us to debase God’s greatness and think suspiciously about God.

Many people think serving God cramps their style and they’d rather experiment and see what the world has to offer. But Adrian Rogers says, “You’ll never reach your full potential without knowing and loving Jesus.”

As Revelation 12:11 reminds us, only when we commit ourselves to the written word of God, can we overcome the devil’s lies.

Apply it to your life

The way to counteract Satan’s four spiritual flaws is to remember God’s spiritual laws.

  1. God loves you and He has wonderful plans for your life.
  2. Sin has separated us from God.
  3. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for our sins on the cross.
  4. If we will receive Him as Lord and Savior, we can know and experience His love and His plans for us.
