Scripture Passage: 1 Peter 3:7-9
“...dwell with them…”
A husband and wife should be one flesh, opening up and sharing with one another, not just physically, but also verbally, emotionally, intellectually, socially, and spiritually.
“...according to knowledge…”
Men and women are different, according to God’s design. Adrian Rogers says, “We have the sameness of worth, but difference of function.”
God designed marriage to mimic the relationship of Jesus Christ and his Bride, the Church. If you want to be a successful husband, you will strive to understand these differences and adjust accordingly.
Put her on a pedestal; express appreciation for her great value. Let your children and your friends know how much you love and honor her.
“...being heirs together of the grace of life…”
We have an equal inheritance as the children of God. Treat your wife as a full partner.
A mark of sharing freely and fully is prayer. Praying for your wife means you see her as a spiritual entity. You acknowledge her spiritual worth and have genuine interest in her spiritual growth.
“...as unto the weaker vessel…”
A successful husband knows that his wife is not inferior to him; however, he acknowledges that she is weaker, so he learns tenderness.
Be of compassion and be her best friend. Hurt when she hurts. Love your wife as you love your own body, and consider her in every decision you make.
Do you want to be a successful husband? Live intimately with your wife, be understanding of her, give honor to her, share fully with her, and deal gently with her.
