- Yet David fell into deep, dark, hateful, heinous sin.
- The Bible doesn’t hide the scars on David’s life.
- David did not go to war; rather he stayed in Jerusalem.

- David was a man after God’s own heart.
- THE TRAGIC CAUSE OF DAVID’S SIN
- The sin of idleness.
- 2 Samuel 11:1-2
- The harvest was over and the battles had begun but David stayed in Jerusalem and was lazy.
- There are two fields that everyone of us need to stay in:
- The battlefield
- The harvest field
- This is the sin of omission.
- David isn’t doing something wrong at this point; he’s just failing to do something right.

- Every sin is ultimately a sin of omission.
- There is a time for legitimate rest, but you’re not supposed to stay in bed all day long.

- We are to stay busy.

- David didn’t fall at his point of weakness, but rather, at the point of his strength his integrity.

- The sin of impulsiveness.
- David had not planned to commit adultery with Bathsheba.
- Sin is a combination of three things many times:
- An undetected weakness
- An unexpected opportunity
- An unprotected life
- David never dreamed that he would have committed this sin.
- The sin of callousness.

- David’s sin with Bathsheba was a hot-blooded sin.
- David’s sin with Uriah was a cold-blooded sin.

- David was under great conviction, but he went one whole year without repenting.
- David was not only cold but he began to rationalize his sin.
- He was stonewalling God.
- The sin of carelessness.
- THE TREMENDOUS COST OF DAVID’S SIN

- David’s sin displeased the Lord and he knew it.

- What happens when a child of God sins?
- There are words of rebuke.
- Psalm 38:1
- God will speak to you through His Holy Spirit, someone, or something to rebuke you.
- If you’re a child of God, God WILL rebuke you.
- There are arrows of conviction.

- There is the hand of pressure.

- God doesn’t toss you away when you sin; He puts His hand on you and squeezes.

- Thank God when you have that kind of pressure.

- There are words of rebuke.
- The most miserable man in the world is a child of God out of fellowship with God.
- When you are saved God doesn’t fix you up where you can’t sin anymore; He fixes you up to where you can’t sin and enjoy it anymore.

- THE TIMELY CHALLENGE OF DAVID’S SIN
- 2 Samuel 12:9
- God doesn’t just let your sin go on and on.
- There are four steps in which God deals with our sin:
- There is conviction.
- The words of rebuke
- God is not trying to get even with us. He is just trying to correct us.
- 1 Corinthians 11:31-32
- There is chastisement.
- Hebrews 12:6
- God is more concerned about your holiness than He is about your health and prosperity.
- God loves those whom He chastises; He loved David.
- Psalm 89:34
- There is confrontation.
- God sent Nathan the prophet to David to confront his sin.
- God will use His Holy Spirit, His Word, the people in our lives or even a circumstance to confront our sin.
- There is consummation.
- 2 Samuel 12:13
- David was a great sinner but became a great repenter.
- God was getting ready to kill David.
