Galatians 1:6-12
(RA-21660, Programs: 1418 & 1518, Air dates: 04.08.18 & 04.15.18)

  1. INTRODUCTION
    1. Humanity believes it is making progress through civilization, science, learning, technology, etc.; but we are not making progress in the things that really matter.
    2. Mankind has three enemies:
      1. Sin
        1. We have made no progress in this area.
        2. All we have done about sin is re-label it.
          1. We no longer say that a person is a drunkard but rather an alcoholic.
          2. We no longer say that a person is a thief but that he is an embezzler.
          3. We no longer say that man is sinful but rather that he is morally challenged.
      2. Sorrow
        1. We have made no progress in this area either.
        2. Suicides and depression are still rampant in our society.
      3. Death
        1. We may be able to postpone death a little, but we haven’t changed the fact of death.
    3. There is no answer to these dilemmas other than the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
    4. Galatians 1:6-12
    5. We find many people today who are trudging to church who have never met Gospel truth.
      1. Many churches no longer tell people how to be saved but rather how to be good.
      2. As Christians, we ought to be kind and make our communities better; but if we do only this and do not preach the Gospel, all we do is make the world a better place to go to Hell from.
  2. THE SATANIC OPPOSITION TO THE GOSPEL: SATAN FOUGHT IT.      (Galatians 1:6-7)
    1. Satan perverts the truth by calling evil good and good evil.
      1. Satan has no raw materials.
      2. All he can do is to take what God created and twist it and pervert it.
      3. Sin is a perversion of that which is good.
      4. Satan, rather than denying the Gospel, had rather pervert the Gospel.
        1. If we accept a synthetic Gospel, then we will never see our need for the real Gospel.
        2. We see evidence of this in our churches and across society today.
          1. Many pick and choose the portions of Scripture they want to follow and create their own “gospel” based upon that.
          2. Many disavow that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.
            1. Today’s society teaches that there is room for every religion.
    2. There can be no compromise with the truth of the Gospel.
      1. Galatians 1:8-9
      2. There is only one Gospel.
        1. Galatians 1:7
  3. THE SETTLED ORIGIN OF THE GOSPEL: GOD THOUGHT IT. (Galatians 1:11-12)
    1. The Gospel is not man’s invention; it comes by divine revelation.
      1. The Apostle Paul states that he did not receive it from man, he wasn’t taught it; rather, it came by revelation.
      2. Many times, we take God’s Word and parade it past the bar of our human reasoning and judgment.
      3. We often base our interpretations of Scripture on what “feels right” to us.
      4. We must understand that there is a divine origin of the Bible that surpasses our intellect and emotions.
    2. We are not looking for a new or modern Gospel.
      1. Galatians 1:8-9
      2. If it is new, it isn’t true.
        1. If someone says they have a new revelation, then it isn’t from God.
        2. It is not the messenger that validates the message; it is the message that validates the messenger.
    3. The Bible, divinely inspired by God, is settled once and for all.
    4. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is settled once and for all.
  4. THE SACRIFICIAL OBTAINMENT OF THE GOSPEL: JESUS BOUGHT IT. (Galatians 1:7)
    1. There is no other Gospel but the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
      1. The Gospel of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
      2. The Gospel does not simply mention Christ or allude to Christ; it centers in Christ.
        1. There are many churches today filled with people who have never been saved.
          1. They’ve met a creed, but not Christ.
          2. They’ve met a cause, but not Christ.
          3. They’ve met a code, but not Christ.
          4. They’ve met a church, but not Christ.
    2. Jesus paid the price of the Gospel with His blood.
      1. Galatians 1:3-5
    3. In ancient Rome, the people worshipped many gods.
      1. Rome was not a destroyer of religions but brought all the religions together and syncretized the religions of the world.
      2. You cannot do this with Jesus.
        1. It is not Jesus and…
        2. It is not Jesus or…
        3. It is Jesus only.
    4. Jesus Christ is the only way.
      1. Acts 4:12
      2. John 14:6
      3. Romans 1:16
  5. THE SAVING OPERATION OF THE GOSPEL: GRACE WROUGHT IT.     (Galatians 1:6)
    1. Grace is what causes God to love us as we are.
      1. God loves us though we are vile, unworthy sinners by nature.
    2. It is seeking grace.
      1. Galatians 1:15
      2. We do not seek God on our own.
        1. Jesus first sought us.
        2. Romans 3:10-11
        3. The hunger and thirst we have for God is because He created us with this desire to know Him.
      3. Genesis 3:9
      4. God is seeking us today.
    3. It is saving grace.
      1. Galatians 1:16
      2. Ephesians 2:8-9
        1. We are not saved by joining a church or by singing in the choir.
        2. We are not saved by good works.
      3. Grace is the free gift of God.
      4. Romans 11:6
    4. It is securing grace.
      1. Romans 5:21
      2. When we are saved, we are eternally saved by grace.
        1. God’s grace can never fail.
      3. Galatians 3:3
        1. The Holy Spirit of God will perfect us and carry us all the way through.
      4. Jesus Christ is not merely our example and teacher, but He is our Savior.
    5. It is sufficient grace.
      1. 2 Corinthians 9:8
      2. We will never run out of God’s grace.
    6. It is surviving grace.
      1. Galatians 1:5
      2. In the ages to come, we will testify to God’s grace.
      3. We will one day be in Heaven only because of God’s grace.
  6. THE SINGULAR OBSESSION WITH THE GOSPEL: PAUL TAUGHT IT.    (Galatians 1:9-10)
    1. Paul was obsessed with the Gospel; a divine obsession.
    2. We all have a desire to please others, but it doesn’t matter whom we please if we displease God.
      1. Paul was not trying to please his own family.
      2. Paul was not trying to please his friends.
      3. Paul was not trying to please the government.
      4. Paul was not trying to please the false teachers.
        1. Galatians 1:13-14
      5. If we try to please everyone, we will please the devil most of all.
    3. Mark 8:38
