- THE NATURE OF HUMAN NATURE (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
- We have a body.
- We have a soul.
- This is our personality, our intelligence, our humor: all of those little proclivities that make us unique.
- This is our mind, emotion and will.
- We have a spirit.
- This is the quality in human nature that enables us to know and worship God.
- Hebrews 4:12
- John 4:24
- Romans 8:16
- With our bodies, we know the physical world - the world beneath us. With our souls, we know the psychological world - the world around us. With our spirits, we know the spiritual world – the world above us.
- WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE LOST?
- Being lost is the condition of every man, woman, boy and girl without the Lord Jesus Christ. Being lost simply means to be without God.
- Luke 19:10
- When Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, God moved out of Adam because God is a holy God and cannot abide with sin.
- Genesis 2:17
- What is death?
- Death is not the separation of the soul from the body; it is the separation of the spirit from God.
- When Adam ate the forbidden fruit, he died immediately in his spirit, progressively in his soul, and ultimately in his body.
- What do you have to do to be lost?
- Nothing; we are lost by nature.
- We are born with a depraved nature.
- WHAT IS SALVATION?
- Salvation is not primarily getting man out of Earth and into Heaven. Salvation is getting God out of Heaven and back into man.
- Sin has separated us from God. This sin barrier is a wedge, a chasm, between holy God and sinful man.
- Man is never satisfied. We have a void in our spirit caused by our separation from God, and we are constantly trying to fill that void. We are trying to reach God; though, we often do not realize that it is God we are seeking. But we keep bouncing off that sin barrier.
- Sin is coming short of the glory of God. Sin is everything in us that is not like God.
- Romans 3:23
- The fact that we have sinned and that sin has separated us from God has not stopped God from loving us.
- Romans 5:8
- God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit planned a means of salvation for us. God the Son - the Lord Jesus Christ - left Heaven and came to this Earth to be the sacrifice for us.
- Matthew 1:21
- Luke 1:31
- Jesus’ death on the cross constructed a bridge between man and God.
- Jesus is the only way to Heaven.
- John 14:6
- Acts 4:12
- Galatians 2:21
- How are we saved? By believing in the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Acts 16:30-31
- The word “believe” in this verse of Scripture literally means “trust”.
- Jesus cannot be our Savior if we are not willing to make Him Lord.
- Surrendering to Jesus’ Lordship means that He takes control of our lives.
- Acts 16:30-31
- Once we are saved, God begins to work in us, making us into the persons He wants us to be.
- Philippians 1:6
- Once we are saved, we are justified immediately in the spirit, sanctified progressively in the soul, and glorified ultimately in the body.
- To be saved, we must invite Jesus into our lives; we must ask Him to come into our lives and take control of our lives.
- Revelation 3:20 – God desires that we all invite Him in.
- HOW DO WE KNOW THAT WE ARE SAVED?
- John 5:24
- When we trust Jesus, as the Bible states, then we are saved.
- We do not trust our feelings to know whether or not we’re saved; we trust what God’s Word tells us.
- We place our faith in God’s facts.
