Matthew 24:1-14
(RA-1994, Program: 1118, Air date: 03.18.18)

    1. The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is a major doctrine in the Bible.
      1. It is mentioned 1,200 times in the Old Testament.
      2. There are over 300 direct prophecies in the New Testament that deal with the second coming.
    2. Many people down through the ages have tried to predict the future and even predict the timing of the second coming, but the only true Word is the Bible.
      1. 2 Peter 1:19
      2. The Bible is more than relevant to today; it is also filled with tomorrow’s headlines.
    3. One of the great chapters on prophecy is Matthew 24.
      1. Matthew 24:1-2
        1. Jesus prophesied of the destruction of the temple.
        2. At the time, it did not seem reasonable that the temple would be destroyed; yet, the Romans did destroy the temple years later.
        3. We need to learn to live by revelation and not by reason.
    4. Matthew 24:3
      1. The word for “coming” in this passage literally means “to take over, to be present, to rule, to reign.”
      2. The word for “world” means “age.”
    5. In Matthew 24, the Lord Jesus tells us what the “age” will look like between His first coming and His second coming and what the signs will be prior to His return.
  2. DECEPTIONS (Matthew 24:4-5)
    1. Deceivers and deceptions are marks of the last days before Jesus Christ returns.
    2. John 4:1-3
    3. There are many antichrists in the world today and many who claim to be the Messiah.
      1. Jesus warned not to look for another Messiah; the Lord Jesus Christ has already come in the flesh.
      2. Antichrist means someone who comes opposing Christ and instead of Christ.
        1. We have seen many in this present age claiming to be the Savior of the world.
        2. We need to know the truth that is revealed in God’s Word in order to recognize the deceptions and deceivers and not be swayed by them.
  3. DIVISION (Matthew 24:6-7)
    1. For centuries, we have been plagued by wars; and as we move toward the end of the age, we see wars increasing in number and intensity.
      1. It is believed that half of all war deaths have occurred since 1900.
    2. Our world is in a state of division.
    3. Zechariah 12:2-3
      1. What is happening in and around the Holy City of Jerusalem is also a fulfillment of prophecy.
  4. DISASTERS (Matthew 24:7-8)
    1. In today’s world, we’re living in a time of unprecedented famine.
      1. We have abused the land, and much top soil and its nutrients have eroded away.
      2. Wars and hostilities prohibit food relief from being to delivered to those in need.
      3. Revelation 6:6
    2. Not only will there be famines in the days prior to Christ’s return, but there will also be pestilences.
      1. Society is wrought with diseases.
    3. There will also be earthquakes in the last days.
      1. We have seen an increase in the number of annual megalithic earthquakes.
    4. In Matthew 24:8, Jesus said that all of these are the beginnings of sorrows.
      1. The word “sorrows” in this passage literally means “birth pangs.”
      2. When we see these symptoms, we know that a “birth” is about to come forth.
  5. DEFAMATION (Matthew 24:9)
    1. Those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ will be defamed in the last days prior to His return.
    2. The persecution centers around the name of Jesus.
    3. The world does not mind religion, but it resents Jesus.
      1. John 14:6
    4. More Christians have died for their faith since 1900 than all other centuries before.
    5. We, as believers in Jesus, can expect to be hated by the world for His name’s sake.
  6. DESERTION (Matthew 24:10)
    1. When this persecution begins, true Christians will stand firm with the Lord Jesus Christ.
      1. Matthew 10:22
      2. Matthew 24:13
    2. Those who are not true Christians will leave their churches.
      1. We have many churches today full of empty people: people who have never committed to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
    3. There will be contention within churches.
      1. Real unity is in the Lord Jesus.
  7. DISINFORMATION (Matthew 24:11)
    1. There is a difference between a false prophet and a false Christ.
      1. A false Christ is religious in scope; one who falsely claims to be the Messiah.
      2. A false prophet is one who speaks with authority; one who will become a philosopher of this day.
    2. There are many strident and humanistic philosophies in today’s society.
      1. Humanism stresses the rights of mankind.
      2. A true prophet stresses the rights of Almighty God.
    3. Today’s world is flooded in disinformation with many false prophets who claim to speak with authority.
  8. DEPRAVITY (Matthew 24:12)
    1. With many false prophets preaching self-interest rather than the rights of Almighty God, we lose our moral anchor.
    2. We now have a generation that no longer believes in a fixed standard of right and wrong.
    3. Job 15:16
      1. The word “iniquity” is the word for “lawlessness.”
    4. Violence and lawlessness are signs of the last days.
  9. DECLARATION (Matthew 24:13-14)
    1. The Gospel will be preached around the world.
    2. This passage in Matthew 24 does not say that we’re saved because we endure, but that we endure because we’re saved.
    3. All of the other signs listed exist throughout the age; but there’s coming a special sign at the very end, and that is when the Gospel is preached around the world.
    4. The ability to preach the Gospel in all of the world was impossible in past times, but it is a reality in our time.
    1. We can trust the Word of God.
      1. All of the prophecies in Scripture have either been fulfilled or are being fulfilled.
    2. Jesus Christ is coming again, and the end of this age is coming.
      1. We need to be busy sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
    3. As believers, we need to lean hard upon Jesus and follow Him closely each day
    4. Do you know Jesus personally? If not, you can pray to Him today by asking Him to come into your life.
    5. Call upon Jesus today. Repent (turn) from your sins, and turn to Jesus. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins, and acknowledge Him as Lord of your life.
      1. Romans 3:23
      2. Romans 10:9-10
      3. Romans 10:13
      4. Acts 16:31
