    1. The apostle Paul was a prisoner headed towards Rome.
    2. Many of us see difficulty in every opportunity, but Paul saw opportunity in every difficulty.

  1. THE REASONS FOR THE STORMS OF LIFE. (Acts 27:9-13)
    1. There are four basic kinds of storms in life.
      1. There are storms that are just part of nature.
        1. Matthew 5:45
      2. There are storms that we ourselves engineer by our foolishness.
        1. Jonah 1-2
      3. There are storms that God sends us into for development.
        1. Matthew 8:18
      4. There are storms we are dragged into by other people.
        1. Acts 27:9-11
        2. Sometimes children get into storms because of unwise or ungodly parents.
        3. Sometimes a country goes into storms because of bad leadership.
        4. Most of the time, there really isn’t much we can do about it.
        5. This is where Paul was; he didn’t want to sail.
    2. There are five ways to sink your ship.
      1. Make your decision in haste.

          1. The Holy Spirit does not push, He leads.
      2. Depend upon worldly wisdom rather than Godly wisdom.

      3. Take the easy way out.
        1. Acts 27:12
      4. Just follow the crowd.

          1. The majority is almost always wrong.
            1. Numbers 13-14
            2. 1 Samuel 8-10
            3. Matthew 27:20-22
      5. Depend upon circumstances.

  1. THE REACTIONS TO THE STORMS OF LIFE. (Acts 27:14-21)
    1. Dreams dissolve.
      1. Acts 27:15
        1. Many times people let the storm come in and then they find themselves powerless against it.
    2. Labor increases.
      1. Acts 27:16
        1. As Christians we are to endure hardships, but grueling toil and labor comes with sin.
          1. Matthew 11:29-30
          2. Proverbs 13:15
    3. Resources are wasted.
      1. Acts 27:18-21
        1. Sin costs us everything.

    4. Hope vanishes.
      1. Acts 27:29
        1. All sense of direction disappears.

    5. Foolishness abounds.

        1. When we try to get out of a storm in our own way it’s a form of escapism that is built on selfishness.
    6. The apostle Paul was trusting in God and was not afraid.

  1. THE RESULTS OF THE STORMS OF LIFE. (Acts 27:23)
    1. It was not God’s plan that they should sail, but it did not stop His ultimate plan.

    2. Where God does not rule, God overrules.
    3. God’s plan for us is that we become more like Jesus.

    4. Sometimes the church can make bad decisions, but Jesus said that not even Hell could stop it.

    5. God’s will is done regardless of who stands against Him.

    6. All of life comes down to who you believe.
