There Is A New World Coming

(2 Peter 3:6)

  2. PAST WORLD – DESTROYED BY FLOOD (II Peter 3:3-6)
    1. A Created World (Vs 5)
      1. God spoke and it came into existence
      2. If you’re wrong about the origin of the world, you’re going be wrong about its destiny.  If you deny the past, you’re going to distort the present.  If you don’t understand how it came into being, you’re not going to understand how it’s going to wrap up.
    2. A Corrupted World ((Genesis 6:3)
      1. People going about just like we would do today
      2. Assuming normal lives – not knowing
    3. A Condemned World (Vs 6)
      1. Scripture tells us that God was long-suffering
      2. Men were living so wickedly God was about to bring judgment
      3. This world today is ripe for judgment
  3. PRESENT WORLD – DESTINED FOR FIRE (2 Peter 3:7, 10-11)
    1. “Reserved unto fire” means stored with fire
      1. Visible world - Things that are seen are made out of things that don’t appear. It was water the first time, it will be fire the second time
      2. Scoffing World - People will scoff at the idea of God and walk after their own lusts
      3. Sentenced World - this world is destined for fire and judgment
  4. PROSPECTIVE WORLD – DESIGNED FOR GLORY (2 Peter 3:12-13)
    1. Not destroyed by fire or flood - This world is a world of forever.
      1. Promised World  - God has promised and God has never broken a promise
      2. Purified World – The problem is sin. The new world will not be soiled by sin. Righteousness is at home.
      3. Provided World - It’s not going to be brought about by human plans. God will bring about a new age.
  5. “WHAT MANNER OF PERSONS OUGHT YE TO BE?”
    1. Word “manner” means exotic or out of this world – we need to be different 
    2. A citizen is at home.  A stranger is away from home.  A pilgrim is headed home.  We’re pilgrims.  This world is not our home; we’re only passing through. 
    3. We ought to Live for His coming – (Vs 11) be holy
    4. We ought to Look for His coming – (Vs 12) be anticipating
    5. We ought to Long for His coming -  (Vs 15) it will be soon
