The Root Of Bitterness

  1. THE GERMINATION OF BITTERNESS

    2. The seed of bitterness is a hurt.
      1. The hurt may be intentional.
      2. The hurt may be unintentional.
      3. The hurt may be imagined.
      4. The hurt may be God’s chastisement.

    3. The soil of bitterness is a heart that harbors hostility.
  2. THE DEVASTATION OF BITTERNESS  (Hebrews 12:15)
    1. The root of bitterness is underground and easy to hide.
      1. Characteristics of a bitter person:
        1. Very sensitive
        2. Has little or no gratitude
        3. Will harshly criticize or vainly flatter
        4. Holds grudges
        5. Mood swings
    2. The fruit of bitterness 
      1. Hebrews 12:15
      2. It will affect you physically.
      3. It will affect you emotionally.
        1. Proverbs 15:17
      4. It will affect you spiritually. 
        1. Hebrews 12:14
      5. Bitterness has a chain reaction. 
        1. Ephesians 4:26, 30-31
          1. Bitterness
          2. Wrath
          3. Anger
          4. Clamor
            1. James 3:6
          5. Evil speaking
          6. Malice
  3. THE ERADICATION OF BITTERNESS
    1. Let God reveal it. 
      1. Psalm 139:23-24
      2. Jeremiah 17:9
    2. Let grace remove it.
      1. Hebrews 12:15
    3. Let good replace it. 
      1. Hebrews 12:14
    4. Ephesians 2:8
  4. CONCLUSION
    1. Allow God to make all things new by surrendering your all to Jesus Christ.
    2. There is no one so bad that they cannot be saved and no one so good that they need not be saved.
    3. Surrender your life to Jesus today.
      1. Call upon Jesus.  Repent (turn) from your sins, and turn to Jesus.  Ask Him to forgive your sins, and acknowledge Him as Lord of your life.
