      2. Deuteronomy 5
    2. There is a culture war going on in America.
      1. The battleground is the home.
      2. The issue is truth.
      3. Satan’s chief weapon is deception.
        1. A lie is the most dangerous thing on planet Earth.
          1. The thought is always the father of the deed.
        2. If the enemy can get a nation to move away from its truth, then the foundations can be destroyed.
          1. Psalm 11:3
    3. Today’s issues are not issues of the religious right or religious left, or the political right or political left; they are issues of right or wrong.
    4. There is no goodness without God.
    5. God gave us the Ten Commandments to protect us and to enrich our lives.
    6. The first commandment can be found in Deuteronomy 5:6-7.
    7. God shows us how to keep the commandments and how to teach them.
      1. Deuteronomy 6:1-7
      2. If we want to preserve our homes and our nation, then we must abide by these commandments of God and pass them down to our children and our children’s children.
    8. James Madison, known as the Father of the American Constitution, stated that the future of American civilization was staked not upon the power of government, but upon the ability of Americans to govern and control themselves according to the Ten Commandments.
    9. Deuteronomy 6:4-12
      1. This passage, known as the Shema, is one of the most important and central passages in Scripture for the Jewish people.
    10. There is much debate about the public posting of the Ten Commandments throughout our cities and schools; but how many of us have them posted in our own homes and know all ten of the commandments?
      1. It is the responsibility of parents to teach our children these commandments and to live them out.
      2. The home is to be a place of spiritual truth and godliness and to pass these truths from one generation to the next.
  2. THE GREAT REVELATION: ONE LORD (Deuteronomy 6:4)
    1. There is only one God; one Jehovah; one Lord.
    2. Scripture declares the fact of God.
      1. Genesis 1:1
      2. Psalm 14:1
    3. Creation displays the hand of God.
      1. No scientist created the laws of science; they are the laws of God that science discovered.
      2. America’s own Declaration of Independence states that “all men are endowed by their Creator;” yet, our public school system cannot teach creationism.
    4. Faith discovers that there is only one true God.
      1. God created us with a desire to know Him.
      2. God so created us that when our heart is right, we respond to the fact of God like our eyes respond to light when our eyes are right.
      3. Unbelief is not an intellectual problem but a moral problem.
        1. A Christian believes by faith that there is a God; an atheist believes by faith that there is no God.
  3. THE GREAT RESPONSE: ONE LOVE (Deuteronomy 6:5)
    1. We are to love God with a sincere love.
      1. We are to love God with all of our hearts.

      3. There should be no area in our lives that is off limits to God.
      4. Two books in our homes show where our priorities lie:
        1. The checkbook - where we put our money.
        2. Our calendar; date book - where we put our time.
    3. We are to love God with a strong love.
      1. We are to love God with all of our might.
        1. This means not only with physical strength, but also with emotional, financial, intellectual strength; whatever strength that we have.
  4. THE GREAT RESPONSIBILITY: ONE LAW (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
    1. We are to teach the law of God in our homes.
      1. The emphasis is upon fathers teaching their children.
        1. A great problem in our society today is that fathers have abandoned their role.
    2. How do we teach the Ten Commandments in our homes?

        3. Deuteronomy 6:9
      6. Compellingly.
        1. We’re to teach God’s Word so that our children will know that we believe what we teach.
  5. CONCLUSION
    1. We cannot effectively teach our children to love God and to love what God loves if we do not love Him ourselves.
    2. Do you know Jesus personally? If not, you can pray to Him today by asking Him to come into your life.
    3. Call upon Jesus today. Repent (turn) from your sins, and turn to Jesus. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins, and acknowledge Him as Lord of your life.
    4. Romans 10:9-10
