(RA-2181, Program: 3818, Air date: 09.23.18)

  1. INTRODUCTION
    1. In Matthew 27:22, Jesus is on the trial before Pilate.
      1. In this passage, Jesus stood before Pilate.
      2. One day, Pilate will stand before Jesus.
    2. The question Pilate asked in Matthew 27:22 is the same question before each of us today: what will I do with Jesus?
      1. This is a personal question – it isn’t what someone else will do with Jesus, but what will I do with Jesus.
      2. This is a present question – it isn’t asking what will be done in the future or what has been done in the past, but what will I do with Jesus today, in the present.
      3. This is a pressing question – each of us will do something with Jesus. We will either accept or reject Him; there is no middle ground. To ignore Him is to reject Him.
      4. This is a pertinent question – this question does not deal with a social or cultural event or issue: what will I do with Jesus who is called Christ?
    3. The Bible teaches the deity of Jesus Christ, that He is God.
      1. If Jesus is not God as He claimed, then He is a fake, fraud and imposter.
      2. But Jesus, as we will see in Scripture, is God. Therefore, we cannot simply “tip our hat” to Jesus.
      3. We will either accept Him and bow the knee to Him, or we will reject Him.
      4. What will I do with Jesus?
    4. This message presents four lines of evidence that show the deity of Jesus Christ.
  2. ALL OF THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD THE FATHER ARE FOUND IN THE LORD JESUS
    1. Jehovah is the name for God in the Old Testament and is used some 7,000 times. In the King James Version of the Scripture, the word Jehovah is translated Lord. The Jehovah of the Old Testament and the Jesus of the New Testament are one and the same.
    2. Isaiah 40:3 and Matthew 3:3
    3. Isaiah 43:11 and Titus 2:13
    4. Isaiah 44:6 and Revelation 1:17
    5. Psalm 23:1 and John 10:11
    6. Psalm 24:10 and 1 Corinthians 2:8
    7. Exodus 20:10-11 and Matthew 12:8
    8. John 1:1-2 teaches the pre-existence of Jesus; Jesus did not have His beginning at Bethlehem.
    9. Jesus’ absolute holiness is taught:
      1. Hosea 11:9
      2. John 8:46
      3. Acts 3:14
      4. Matthew 6:12 teaches us to pray for forgiveness for our sins. Jesus never once had to pray for forgiveness.
  3. THE ADORATION JESUS RECEIVED SHOWS HIM TO BE GOD
    1. Idolatry is the ultimate sin: to worship any god other than Jehovah.
    2. Jesus allowed Himself to be worshipped.
    3. Jesus knew that only God is to be worshipped.
      1. Luke 4:6-8
    4. Matthew 28:9
    5. Revelation 22:8
  4. JESUS IS SHOWN TO BE GOD BY HIS OWN ADMISSION (John 8:56-59)
    1. In this passage, the Pharisees wanted to stone Jesus because He had said, “Before Abraham was, I AM.”
    2. In Exodus 3:13-14, God called Himself by this sacred name.
    3. There never was a time when Jesus was not, and there never will be a time when He will not be. He is the great, pre-existent, eternal God.
    4. John 14:8-9
  5. JESUS IS SHOWN TO BE GOD BY HIS ABILITIES
    1. Jesus is able to save.
      1. Hebrews 7:25
      2. Romans 10:13
    2. Jesus is able to subdue.
      1. Philippians 3:21
    3. Jesus is able to secure.
      1. 2 Timothy 1:12
  6. CONCLUSION
    1. To explain Jesus is impossible.
    2. To ignore Jesus is disastrous.
    3. To deny Jesus is fatal.
    4. Human speech is too limited to describe Him.
    5. The human mind is too finite to comprehend Him.
    6. The human heart is too small to contain Him.
    7. What to do with Jesus?
      1. You can crown Him or crucify Him.
      2. You can accept Him or reject Him.
      3. You can love Him or despise Him.
      4. You can believe Him or ignore Him.
      5. You cannot be neutral; you must make a decision.
    8. Do you know Jesus personally? If not, you can pray to Him today by asking Him to come into your life.
    9. Call upon Jesus today. Repent (turn) from your sins, and turn to Jesus. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins, and acknowledge Him as Lord of your life.
      1. Romans 3:23
      2. Romans 10:9-10
