Ephesians 5:23-33
(Program 1954, Airing on 11.09.08)

    1. We need to understand responsibilities and Kingdom Authority in the home
      1. Principle of Kingdom Authority: we can never be over those things that God wants to be under us until we get under those things that God has put over us
    2. When the Bible speaks of headship in the home, it’s not speaking of rights but of responsibilities
      1. Headship is not a chain of command, but rather a line of responsibility
    3. There are three major areas of responsibility involving the husband’s headship in the home
      1. Servant leadership
      2. Sacrificial love
      3. Steadfast loyalty
  2. SERVANT LEADERSHIP (Ephesians 5:23)
    1. The husband is responsible to meet the needs of his wife, just as the Lord Jesus is responsible to meet the needs of the church
    2. Husbands and wives are equal, just as God the Father and God the Son are equal
      1. 1 Corinthians 11:3
      2. Philippians 2:6
      3. Galatians 3:28
    3. A leader serves
      1. Luke 22:25-26
      2. John 13:13-15
  3. SACRIFICIAL LOVE (Ephesians 5:25-29)
    1. Passionate love (Ephesians 5:25)
      1. Apart from your love for Jesus Christ, your love for your spouse should be your highest love on earth
    2. Purifying love (Ephesians 5:26-27)
      1. A husband is to be prophet, priest, and pastor to his wife
    3. Protecting love (Ephesians 5:28)
      1. A husband is to protect his wife physically, emotionally, and spiritually
      2. The husband is to be the door keeper: for Satan to attack the family, he must first go through the husband
    4. Providing love (Ephesians 5:29)
      1. The husband is to provide for his wife’s emotional, physical, and spiritual needs
  4. STEADFAST LOYALTY (Ephesians 5:30-33)
    1. As Jesus has promised to never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), so too are husbands to remain faithful and committed to their wives
