The Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, offering eternal life to all who believe.
The word “gospel” means “good news,” and the Gospel of Jesus Christ truly is the best news ever declared to the world. The Gospel is the announcement that God has provided a way of salvation for sinners through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son. It is the central message of the Bible and the foundation of the Christian faith. The Gospel is not about what we must do for God—it’s about what God has already done for us through Jesus.
“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel... that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:1–4, KJV).
To understand why the Gospel is “good news,” we must first acknowledge the bad news: all humanity is separated from God because of sin. The Bible teaches that every person has sinned (Romans 3:23), and that sin results in both physical and spiritual death (Romans 6:23). No amount of good works, religious rituals, or moral effort can bridge the gap between us and a holy God.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23, KJV).
Into this hopeless condition, God intervened. Out of love, God sent His only begotten Son,
Jesus Christ, to live a sinless life and willingly die on the cross in our place. Jesus bore our sins, absorbed the wrath of God, and paid the penalty we deserved. But the story doesn’t end with His death. On the third day, He rose again, conquering sin and death forever.
“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, KJV).
Our Response: Repent and Believe the Gospel
The Gospel calls for a response. It’s not simply a story to admire. It’s a truth to believe and a
message to act upon. The Bible says we must repent (turn from our sin) and place our faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation (Mark 1:15; Acts 3:19). We are not saved by religious works or personal merit, but by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9).
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9, KJV).
When people receive the Gospel by faith, everything changes. They are forgiven, made new, and reconciled to God. The Holy Spirit indwells believers, empowering them to live for
Christ. The Gospel brings not only eternal life after death but abundant life right now—life
filled with hope, peace, and purpose.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17, KJV).
• The Gospel means “good news”—that Jesus saves sinners.
• All people have sinned and are in need of salvation (Romans 3:23).
• Jesus lived a perfect life, died in our place, and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:1–4).
• Salvation is a free gift received by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9).
• Believing the Gospel results in eternal life and a restored relationship with God.
The Gospel is not just a message from the past—it’s the living hope of the present and the
eternal promise of the future. It speaks to every human heart, offering forgiveness, healing,
and purpose. No matter who you are or what you’ve done, Jesus Christ offers you new life
through the power of the Gospel. That is truly the greatest news anyone could ever hear.
