What can we do to help bring our nation back to God?

It’s not too late. Notice the prayer of the patriot in Psalm 80:14: “Return, we beseech Thee, O God of hosts; look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine. And the vineyard which Thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that Thou madest strong for Thyself.” What can you do?

Look up. Notice Psalm 80:19: “Turn us again, O Lord God of Hosts, cause Thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.” We need to return to God with fasting, praying and weeping. There needs to be an old-fashioned revival in the hearts of our nation. God doesn’t have to route revival through Washington. Revival must come from within my heart. It must come from within every individual heart.

Confess up. Psalm 18:16 says: “It is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.” We must confess and turn from our wicked ways. We need to do what it says in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Speak up. In the name of Jesus we need to speak up. “Let Thy hand be upon the man of Thy right hand, upon the Son of Man whom Thou madest strong for Thyself.” (Psalm 80:17). When they tell us to go back under the rock, we need to shout it out: “Never! We stand on this Rock, the Lord Jesus Christ!” Some would say “Sounds like you’re trying to mix politics and religion.” Let me tell you something about the church. The church is not the master of the state nor is the church the servant of the state. The church is the conscience of the state. We need to speak up, and say what God's Word says. Satan’s strategy is to keep good people silent in evil times.

Stand up. Psalm 80:18 says: “So will not we go back from Thee; quicken us, and we will call upon Thy name.” We don’t have to have great numbers. Our Savior Jesus began His ministry when He was just 30 years old with twelve men. Joshua 23:10 challenges us: “One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the Lord your God, He it is that fighteth for you, as He hath promised you.”
