Revived from Afar: Pastor Davies’ Story
On a remote island in the vast Pacific, Pastor Davies Posau Karol serves the Lorengau Baptist Church in Manus Island, Papua New Guinea. Life there is both beautiful and challenging. The islanders are familiar with the roar of the ocean and the echo of distant nations’ interests—like the US and Australia helping with the rebuilding of the Lombrum Naval Base on Manus island. Yet amid these worldly stirrings, a quieter, more profound work of God has been unfolding in the heart of Pastor Davies.
Years ago, Davies received a parcel from BEAMS Bible Distribution. It contained not just Bibles but DVDs and other materials from various American preachers. Among them was Pastor Adrian Rogers. In that humble package lay the seed of a spiritual revival no one could have predicted.
As he watched, listened, and read Pastor Rogers’ sermons, Davies found himself deeply stirred. Adrian Rogers’ style was clear, practical, and full of grace—a voice that spoke across continents. Davies went to the LWF website, lwf.org. He downloaded sermon outlines, printed transcripts, and taught biblical truth faithfully in his church. These resources didn’t collect dust on a shelf. They became living words of hope, preached from his pulpit and, at his urging, broadcast every Sunday evening on the local "Send the Light" radio program. Through these sermons, the simple plan of salvation rang out across Manus Island, sowing the seed of the Gospel into many hearts.
The impact was not merely academic or organizational. It was deeply personal. Pastor Davies, feeling the weight of ministry in a remote, sometimes overlooked place, asked Love Worth Finding for prayer. When the ministry replied, assuring him of their intercession, he was moved to tears of gratitude. Knowing that brothers and sisters in Christ, halfway around the world in Memphis, Tennessee, were holding him and his ministry up to the Lord gave him courage to press on.
Davies says humbly: “Your hands are on the plow with us in the Lord's work here and we are sincerely grateful for you being there for us before the throne of grace.” Those words reflect his sense of partnership with Love Worth Finding—a partnership that spans oceans yet unites hearts in Christ.
Davies writes with wonder that he never met Pastor Rogers. Yet, he says, Pastor Rogers’ sermons have revived his ministry in a way that reminds him of the biblical account in 2 Kings 13:21.
“I thanked God that Pastor Rogers is like Prophet Elisha, whose bone God used to resurrect a dead person to life.” Just as a dead man was revived when he touched the bones of the prophet Elisha, so too Davies’ own ministry was quickened through the recorded words of a preacher now in glory.
Such is the power of the Gospel that Love Worth Finding shares daily with millions around the world. Translated into 13 non-English languages, these messages of hope, conviction, and grace find their way into churches in big cities and tiny villages alike. And on Manus Island, Pastor Davies stands as living proof that no distance is too great for God to bridge, no heart too far for Him to reach.
He closes his letter simply: “Continue the great work that God hath begun already. God be magnified in us.” Indeed, may He be.
