You Are in Faith School

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.”

Hebrews 11:8

Ponder This

Abraham was a pagan and an idolater. He lived in a place called Ur of the Chaldees. When God spoke to him, he enrolled in the school of faith—2000 years before Christ. Furthermore, he was 75 years of age when he enrolled in this school. Don’t tell me you’re too evil and don’t tell me you’re too old. If Abraham became the father of those who believed (See Romans 4:16-17.), can you not step into this wonderful, glorious life of faith also?

Think about it. A man over 70 years of age. He was in a strange land. He was settled there. He had a beautiful wife, a business, and family nearby. But he left it all to go to a country he had never seen, and he was marching under sealed orders. God didn’t tell him where he was going or how long it was going to take him to get there. God didn’t tell him what he was going to do when he got there, how long he would stay, or what would happen to him. God just said, “Get up and go.” And Abraham left and enrolled himself in the school of faith.

  • How does today’s passage encourage you that it’s never too late to start fresh with God?
  • Where have you believed the lie that you were too evil or too old to receive grace from God?

Practice This

List ways you’ve believed you were too far from God. Submit these before Him in prayer, trusting that He will receive you as He did Abraham.
