What is God Waiting On?

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

2 Peter 3:9

Ponder This

Why has Jesus not come in our day and our age? God’s waiting for more people to be saved. Peter wrote that many would say, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation” (2 Peter 3:4). Peter continued on, “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:8-9).

It could be that the reason Jesus didn’t come yesterday is because God wants you saved today. It could be that God is keeping the door open one more time. But remember, in Noah’s time the flood did come. And even now the raging waters of God’s wrath are furiously pounding against the dam of His mercy. He has promised that one day Jesus Christ will come, and it will be too late for many as it was too late in Noah’s day.

  • Have you made sure you have valued God’s grace and not dismissed His patience?
  • How should this reality motivate us to tell others about Jesus?
