The Baby -- The Mighty God

Isaiah 9:6 prophesied, “Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given....” The Child born is the Babe of Bethlehem, and the Son given is the everlasting Jesus. The verse continues, “and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the mighty God...”

Some may ask, “Whose name—the Baby? You’re calling that Baby the Mighty God?” Well, Isaiah the prophet did. “El Gibbor” is the name he used, and it literally means “the God-man.”

But Isaiah was written 700 years before Jesus Christ was born. Therefore, in the New Testament it’s no surprise to see God the Spirit, God the Father, and God the Son coming together in this wonderful Christmas story. And the same Gospel of Matthew that begins in chapter one speaking of the Holy Trinity concludes in chapter twenty-eight with Jesus saying, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost….”
