Keep Running for God

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:14

Ponder This

God has a race for you to run, and it doesn’t end until you draw your last breath. There’s no way for you to retire. There’s no way for you to quit. There’s no way for you to move aside. You’re not running to make it to Heaven; no, salvation is what puts you in the race. You have to be saved even to get to the starting block. You have to be born again to qualify for this race. No man can run in the Olympic Games unless he is a citizen of the country for which he runs. You have to be a citizen of Heaven to get in this race. No exceptions. The Apostle Paul, late in life, said this in Philippians 3:14: “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” That is, I’m running for the tape, and I’m pressing with every inch and every ounce of me. And then, in Acts 20:24, he said he wanted to “finish [his] race with joy.” Paul said, “I’m not going to stop running until the race is over.” Neither should we.

  • What are the practical ways we “run the race” God has set before us?
  • Why is it crucial that we rely on His strength to run?
