God’s Plan for Israel

“I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!”

Romans 11:11-12

Ponder This

Paul became the apostle to the Gentiles, and you and I are reading from a Jew who wrote to us the Book of Romans. We’re blessed by the mysterious plan of God. But God said that came about in a strange way when the Jews turned from the Gospel and the Gentiles were blessed. In effect, God is saying in this Scripture: “If I keep my Word to the Gentiles, how much more, then, will I keep My Word to Israel and bring her people back to Me?” Remember that Israel was not to be just simply a reservoir through which God poured His blessings, but it was a pipeline through which God dispersed His blessings. In Genesis, God said to Abraham, “In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3). Abraham is the tree, and we who are Gentiles have simply been grafted in. We’re the wild olive. If God can take unbelieving pagans and make believers out of them, how much more can He bring Jews to their true Messiah?

  • How does it affect you to think of the way God has brought you into His family? How has that changed your life?
  • What friends have you prayed for who need salvation and reconciliation with God?
