How to Handle Irritating Moments

“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.”

2 Peter 1:5-7

Ponder This

In the early stages of life, humans are weak, out of control, and prone to tantrums. As we grow and mature, these things change. The same is true in spiritual growth. Are you under control? How about your sexual desires? How about your appetite for food? How about your sleep? How about your recreation? How about your quiet time?

How do you respond to the inconvenient moments of life? I spilled something the other day; I hit it with my hand. It went all over my stuff on my desk and ran into my papers that I had stacked neatly. My first thought was, “What purpose is all of that? Why would that happen?” Then I thought, “Thank You God for that if for no other reason than to help develop my patience.”

This ordinary work God is doing in us equips us for the moments when our circumstances are less than ideal. He prepares us for the hard moments and the persecution we face. Preparation and maturity for the big moments in life are built through daily life with God.

  • What are some things in the list in 2 Peter 5:7 that God is developing in you?
  • Which one is the most challenging for you? Have you invited God to work on that struggle? How might you do that now?
