Who Is Jesus? The God-Man


Philippians 2:5-11

  1. JESUS IS THE SUPERNATURAL SON OF GOD.  (Philippians 2:6-7)
    1. Jesus was born of a virgin.  (Isaiah 7:14)
    2. The virgin birth was necessary, for in Adam we all die.  (1 Corinthians 15:22)
    3. Some find the virgin birth hard to believe.
      1. Even Mary questioned how it could be.  (Luke 1:37)
      2. Those who have difficulty believing in the virgin birth
        1. Have difficulty with the character of God – saying that God’s Word is not true.
        2. Have difficulty with the character of Mary – saying that Mary was a harlot.
        3. Have difficulty with the character of Jesus – saying that Jesus was illegitimately born with a sin nature.
        4. Have difficulty with their own character; for without the virgin birth, we have no real hope of Heaven.
  2. JESUS IS THE SINLESS SON OF GOD.  (Philippians 2:8)
    1. Jesus always pleased the Father.

    2. Jesus was tempted as we are tempted, yet He did not sin.  (Hebrews 4:15)
  3. JESUS IS THE SOVEREIGN SON OF GOD.  (Philippians 2:6)

  4. JESUS IS THE SACRIFICIAL SON OF GOD.  (Philippians 2:8)
    1. Jesus’ death on the cross was not incidental or accidental.  He was not a victim, and He did not die as a martyr.  This was God’s plan before the foundation of the world.  (Revelation 13:8)
    2. The blood coursing through the veins of the Lord Jesus was not Mary’s blood; it was the blood of God.  (Acts 20:28)
  5. JESUS IS THE SURVIVING SON OF GOD.  (Philippians 2:9)
    1. Jesus said from the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30), signifying that redemption’s price had been paid.
    2. Jesus is the only One who was raised to life, never to die again.
