Romans 5:1-5, 17

1. ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN OUR LIVES
1. The Holy Spirit is called in the Bible the “Advocate of the Lord Jesus Christ”
2. Jesus is our advocate before the Father; the Holy Spirit is the advocate to us
3. The Holy Spirit takes the things of God, the things of Jesus, and shows them to us
2. TWO KINGDOMS  (Romans 5:17)                                                                              
1. There is a kingdom of darkness and a kingdom of light; a kingdom of Satan and death and a kingdom of God and life
2. There are two men who are associated with each kingdom:  one man is Adam, one man is Jesus
3. We are either with Adam in the kingdom of death, or we are with Christ in the kingdom of life
4. We choose to either remain in Adam or to live in Christ
5. When we choose Jesus, we have much more in Christ than we ever lost in Adam
3. THROUGH ONE MAN, ADAM, WE BECAME SLAVES TO SIN;  THROUGH JESUS, WE ARE MADE RIGHTEOUS  (Romans 5:19)
4. WHAT WE RECEIVED FROM ADAM
1. Weakness rather than power  (Romans 5:6)
2. Ungodliness rather than godliness  (Romans 5:6 and 3:23)
3. Sinfulness  (Romans 5:7-8)
   1. What is sin?
1. Doing what we ought not to do  (1 John 3:4 and James 2:10)
2. Failing to do what we ought to do  (James 4:17)
3. Unbelief in God; not believing God  (Romans 14:23)
4. Human goodness  (Proverbs 21:4)
4. Wrath rather than approval  (Romans 5:9)
5. Warfare rather than peace  (Romans 5:10 and Matthew 12:30)
5. WHAT WE GAINED THROUGH JESUS
1. Much more of justification  (Romans 5:9)
2. Much more of reconciliation  (Romans 5:10)
3. Much more of regeneration  (Romans 5:15)
4. Much more of righteousness  (Romans 5:17)
1. God imputes to us righteousness; He puts righteousness on our account  (Romans 4:5-8)
5. Much more of our reign  (Romans 5:20-21)
