Why do bad things happen to God's people?

We have to remember that this world bears the curse of sin, and we live in it. Therefore, pain is a part of human existence. But notice that God said to Adam, “Cursed is the ground for thy sake,” (Gen. 3:17, emphasis added), not “for thy punishment.” Pain and heartache are God’s gifts to tells us something is wrong.
