The Expedience of Obedience

Acts 5:27-Acts 6:1 (Program 2460DVD, Airing on 8/21 & 8/28)

  1. THE REASONS FOR OBEDIENCE
    1. Obedience is a duty to be performed.  (Acts 5:29)
      1. 1 Samuel 15:22-23
        1. Disobedience is like witchcraft.
        2. Disobedience is iniquity.
        3. Disobedience is idolatry.
    2. Obedience is a debt to be paid.  (Acts 5:29-31)
    3. Obedience is a delight to be preferred.  (Acts 5:41)
    4. Obedience is a decision to be practiced.
      1. God will allow us to disobey.
      2. God has given man the power to choose.
      3. There are certain things, that by His very nature, God cannot do.
        1. God cannot fail.  (Ephesians 1:11)
        2. God cannot do evil.  (Titus 1:2)
        3. God cannot be tempted.  (James 1:13-14)
          1. When Jesus was tempted of Satan in the wilderness, He was tempted in His humanity.  (Luke 4:1-13)
        4. God cannot be unjust.  (Romans 3:26)
          1. It is impossible for God to forgive sin without a sacrifice. 
          2. God cannot overlook or bypass sin.
        5. God cannot force loving obedience.

         

  2. THE REQUIREMENTS FOR OBEDIENCE 
    1. Obedience must be informed.  (Acts 5:17-20)
    2. Obedience must be intentional.  (Proverbs 8:32-34)
    3. Obedience must be immediate.  (Acts 5:28-31)
      1. Psalm 119:60
      2. Procrastination is a form of disobedience. 
    4. Obedience must be inflexible.  (Acts 5:33)
      1. Selective obedience is not obedience at all.
    5. Obedience must be impassioned.  (Romans 6:17)

     

  3. THE REWARDS FOR OBEDIENCE
    1. The Spirit will be received.  (Acts 5:32)
    2. Joy is achieved.  (Acts 5:41)
    3. The gospel is believed.  (Acts 5:42, 6:1)
