Psalm 128:1-6 (Program 2127DVD, Airing on 6/19)

  1. WHAT IS A FAMILY?
    1. A God-ordained unit related by marriage, blood or adoption.
    2. God created the family to satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts and to give us a means to give and receive love, to propagate the human race, and to provide a safe and secure environment in which to nurture, to teach and to love our children.
    3. God describes the ideal family in Psalm 128:
      1. A godly husband  (Psalm 128:1-2)
      2. A faithful wife  (Psalm 128:3)
      3. Happy and productive children  (Psalm 128:3)
    4. The idea of a happy family is often made fun of today.  We need to bring fun back to the family.
      1. This does not mean irresponsibility or failing to do what we should because of carelessness.
    5. Laughter is a gift from God.

    6. Jesus was a man of great gladness.

  2. FAMILY FUN REFRESHES  (Psalm 128:2)
    1. Psalm 127:2
      1. This verse literally means that God “giveth his beloved in his sleep.”
    2. We need not be so busy making a living that we forget to live.

    1. Joy and laughter are medicine to our bodies and souls.

    5. Three things to remember when raising children:
      1. Be firm have some rules.
      2. Be fair be honest.
      3. Be fun.
  4. FAMILY FUN REMAINS  (Psalm 128:4-6)
    1. We build for our children a museum of memories.
    2. Memories bring a sense of security and belonging to a child’s life.
  5. CONCLUSION
    1. God desires for all of us to have three homes.
      1. A church home
      2. A family home
      3. A heavenly home
    2. Jesus Christ is the key to all three.
    3. The fear of the Lord is love on its knees.
