Isaiah 6:1-8
(Program 2312, Airing on 02.21.10)
- INTRODUCTION
- There is only one true God.
- Jeremiah 2:11
- There are many things about God that we cannot understand. But we don’t have to understand God in order to know Him.
- The Old Testament book of Isaiah tells us of the prophet’s encounter with God. (Isaiah 6:1-5)
- THE ONE TRUE GOD IS THE TRIUNE GOD (Isaiah 6:1-3)
- The great Christian distinctive is the Trinity.
- We do not worship three gods; we worship one God revealed in three persons.
- To deny the Trinity is the root of many heresies.
- The only way to understand the doctrine of the Trinity is by divine revelation.
- We don’t have to understand the Trinity in order to believe in the Trinity.
- There is only one God, so there is nothing to compare Him to.
- Isaiah 40:18
- We see reflections of God’s triune nature in His creation:
- Time past, present and future
- Space height, width and depth
- Man body, soul and spirit
- We see evidences of the Trinity in the Old Testament:
- In the vision of Isaiah
- Isaiah 6:1
- Isaiah 6:3-5
- Isaiah 6:8
- In the creation story
- Genesis 1:1
- The name for God in this passage is the Hebrew word “Elohim”, which is plural in nature.
- Genesis 1:26
- John 1:1-3
- Job 26:13
- In the Great Confession of Israel
- Deuteronomy 6:4-5
- “The Lord our God is one Lord” is translated from “Jehovah our Elohim is one.” The word “Jehovah” is singular; the word “Elohim” is plural. The word “one” is “echad”, meaning a collective one.
- Other places in Scripture denoting a “collective one”:
- Genesis 2:24
- Genesis 11:6
- Numbers 13:23
- 1 Samuel 13:17
- 1 Chronicles 17:21
- In the prophecies concerning the Messiah
- Daniel 3:25
- Proverbs 30:4
- Psalm 2:6-7
- Isaiah 9:6
- New Testament references
- Matthew 11:27
- John 8:58
- John 5:22-23
- John 14:6
- John 14:9
- THE ONE TRUE GOD IS THE HOLY GOD (Isaiah 6:3)
- This is His inward character of perfect goodness.
- God is holy, and He will punish sin.
- We do not break the laws of God; they continue to stand. We are broken on them when we sin.
- THE ONE TRUE GOD IS THE SAVING GOD (Isaiah 6:5-8)
- In Isaiah chapter 5, Isaiah mentions six different woes, in which he denounces sin. Then, he sees the Lord; and he says, “Woe is me.”
- The Lord Jesus is the only one who can repair a broken life.
- This passage of Scripture is a picture and a prophecy of the blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses from all sin, for without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.
- There is only one way to know this one true God, and that is through the blood sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- John 14:6
