A Woman's Beautiful Spirit
April 28 | Taken from this message by Adrian Rogers
Some people say that women are not to fix their hair or wear gold or make-up. I have to tell you friend, that’s a faulty interpretation of the Word of God. It is also a dangerous interpretation. Let’s look at it very simply.
First Peter 3:1-4 says, “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the Word, they also may without the Word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price” (emphasis mine).
I believe the interpretation of this passage goes beyond the literal interpretation, which many try to limit it to. The things mentioned in this verse are corruptible. They change. If you put all your eggs in that basket, you’re fighting a losing war.
What is it that can get more and more beautiful every day? It is the spirit—that which is on the inside. The beauty and adornment of serenity is what makes a woman increasingly beautiful.
