Reaping Without Sowing

September 20 | Taken from a message by Adrian Rogers

Listen to what Jesus said, “And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.” (John 4:37-38). We can reap where we haven’t sown. What do I mean by that? Let me give you an illustration.

While listening to the news the other day, I learned that little children are now being born addicted to drugs. Their parents have sown the seeds of drug addiction and children are reaping the harvest. The fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children’s teeth are set on edge.

Indeed, God’s Word is coming true, “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me” (Exodus 24:5). Oh, how terrible it is that we can reap where we haven’t sowed.

But friend, we can look at this in a positive light. We can sow for others. We can be a blessing for generations to come. What are you sowing today that will reap blessings for others tomorrow?
