No Peace Treaty With Sin
July 10 | Taken from a message by Adrian Rogers
I believe one of the strangest verses that ever fell from the lips of Jesus, was this: "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword." (Matthew 10:34).
That’s incredible because Isaiah 9:6 calls Him the "Prince of peace." Also, when He was born, the angels said, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men" (Luke2:14).
Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God" (Matthew 5:9). And yet in this passage, Jesus Christ said, the He didn’t come to bring peace. What is He talking about?
I believe Jesus is telling us that He came with a sword to put a line of demarcation between Truth and error, light and dark, sin and righteousness. When God’s standard of righteousness is set, there will always be a division. Without righteousness there can be no godly peace. Peace can never come where sin remains. God will never make a peace treaty with sin, never!
