"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
Teaching the Bible ought to be as normal as eating, breathing, walking and sitting. So many of us have the idea that Bible instruction is, "You sit still while I instill." Or like cod liver oil – a dose a day keeps the devil away. We just ram the Bible down their throats. No—be creative!
Start teaching your child by building their character. Our culture puts an emphasis upon sports, grades, health, popularity, and possessions, but dads need to focus on building moral character and integrity into their children. When you compliment your child, don't affirm him just for his natural abilities, but compliment him for his character!
Dad, your child needs some goals and some limitations. Start setting limits! When you set goals and limits, the child will test them, push against them to see if they give. And when he pushes against those limits, if you do not hold firm, your child will lose a sense of security. No limitations on the child imply to him that he has been rejected. If you do not conquer your child, somebody else will. Set limits.
